Information and Referral Service

ResourceWest staff and volunteers answer questions about everything from the need for food, clothing, shelter and healthcare, to where children will be going to school. We have always prided ourselves on not duplicating services — and we are always on the lookout for new services to meet the needs of our community. Contact us to suggest a new resource.

Here are some of the organizations we work with:

Hennepin County Economic Assistance

We provide space one day per week for an Economic Assistance Worker to meet with clients to renew or sign up for county and state assistance programs.

Hopkins and Minnetonka School Districts

We provide support to families and staff by answering questions about housing, medical resources, counseling and recreation. School supplies and Winter Warm Wear are often provided to students directly through the schools — as school district staff is acutely aware of the needs in their schools. Our services are available year round and on days when other agencies are closed.

The Cities of Hopkins and Minnetonka

Hopkins and Minnetonka city staff regularly refer their residents to us. We’ve received referrals from city offices, housing inspectors, public housing staff and professional staff from both cities.

HousingLink

HousingLink's website provides a list of affordable housing vacancies in Hennepin County, plus information and referral on housing issues and problems.

Intercongregation Communities Association

ICA is our sister agency. They provide us with Emergency Food Bags, financial assistance applications, and bus tokens for their customers.  We serve as a meeting location for clients who cannot travel to their Minnetonka location. We are also a food donation site for the foodshelf.

Community Action Partnership of Suburban Hennepin

We send residents who need energy assistance to Community Action Partnership's site and homeowners with mortgage difficulties to their Mortgage Foreclosure Program. They provide financial counseling with Lutheran Social Services and eligibility screening for the Food Support program. We also provide meeting space for their First Time Home Buyers program.

Second Harvest Food Bank

We serve as a distribution site for Second Harvest's Mothers & Children (MAC) and Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS) food packages.

Children’s Dental Services

CDS provides dental care both for children whose families cannot pay for dental care, as well as for children with insurance. They have held several dental clinics at our site and we are planning to host them on a regular basis.

Smiles Change Lives

Smiles Change Lives is a national nonprofit organization that provides life-changing, essential orthodontic treatment for children from low-income families.  Based in Kansas City, the program has treated more than 1,200 children since 1997. With its origin as the Virginia Brown Community Orthodontic Partnership, Smiles Change Lives has emerged as the nation’s leader in providing access to orthodontic care for underserved youth.

Minnetonka Life Care Center

We refer moms in their first trimester and young single moms who need diapers and formula to MLCC. We also provide MLCC with baby items that have been donated to us. They are located down the street from ResourceWest, at 1615 Mainstreet Hopkins, MN 55343.
