Winter Warm Wear

Keeping kids warm throughout the cold winter is essential in Minnesota. Too often, we see children and adults braving our tough weather with the bare minimum of winter outer wear -- or none at all. ResourceWest receives frequent requests from Hopkins and Minnetonka school staff looking for winter clothing for students without the most basic cold weather items.

The Winter Warm Wear Program is open from November through March each year. We stock up with new or gently used winter jackets, snow pants, boots, and new hats and mittens. This program provides winter essentials for more than 950 local low-income children.

The program is for children from newborn to age 18. In addition, we have a limited selection of adult jackets available. Each qualified child will receive (if available) a winter jacket, a pair of snow pants, a pair of winter boots, a hat, and a pair of mittens.

2009 Winter Warm Wear registration: October 26-30, 2009
Warm Wear distribution: November 5-11, 2009

  • Don’t like to shop, or don’t have the time? Our volunteers love to shop! Donate now through our secure online site. You can also make a donation in someone’s name to the Winter Warm Wear program, and they will receive a note informing them of your thoughtful gift.
  • Become a drop site. Collect winter warm wear at work, church, through your civic organization, or in your neighborhood.
  • Look through your closet! Gently used items in good condition can be donated.
  • Buy a spare. When you purchase new items for your child, buy an extra item to donate.
  • Turn your party into a collection opportunity! Instead of exchanging gifts, have everyone bring a winter warm wear item to donate.
  • Volunteer. We need volunteers to buy, sort, and distribute clothing for this program. Learn more.
